Basic SEO Tips for Online Wholesalers

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is an important part of building a successful website with a successful store, whether you are involved with business to business or direct to individual wholesaling. The Internet provides you with the opportunity to reach huge numbers of potential customers all over the world without having to leave your hometown, but in order to get to those potential customers, you need to make yourself visible on the web. SEO is the way you do that, because implementing its methods makes your website optimized for the search engines, as its name suggests.

Optimizing your website for the search engines is crucial, because without them, you are much less likely to get the kind of traffic (and sales) you would like to see from your website. With that in mind, the following are some good basic tips to keep in mind for building and maintaining your website.

1.) Aside from the information you must include about your company (address, etc), as well as the product and ordering information, you should also populate your website with actual content. Content can be articles, how-to guides, news, or anything else, as long as it is relevant to what you sell. This is a good way to get keywords in for the search engines to find, and it will draw visitors in by offering them some value for their time. This, in turn, will boost traffic and profits.

2.) Put a few instances of your keywords in a bold font where appropriate. Doing this occasionally in your content will make the search engine spiders pay more attention to them, because the spiders will count a word weighted with bold as being more important than the words surrounding it. Avoid having every single instance of your keywords bolded, though, or it will look odd, and it isn't necessary anyway.

3.) Mix up your anchor text. Anchor text refers to the words that are hyperlinked on your pages, so that when a visitor clicks on them, they are taken to another page. Even if you have the linked words going to the same exact page every time, make sure the anchor text varies from time to time or the search engine spiders will begin to ignore them.

SEO is something of a fine art, with many different tips, tricks, techniques and methods to apply to boost your site's page rank and traffic, but with a little common sense and some basics under your belt, you will be well on your way to the visibility your business needs.
